Dr Ruder practices as a specialist endocrinologist, with an approach of one who sees beyond the surface of things to the deeper truths that shape human life. His practice has been shaped by parallel paths: one of rigorous scientific evidence based training, and one of deep, personal inquiry into the nature of existence itself.

His work focuses on the complex systems that regulate the human body—hormones, metabolism, energy, and stress. He manages the spectrum of endocrine conditions such as thyroid disease, adrenal disease, menopause, and PCOS. He holds the position of honourary lecturer at the Wits School of Clinical Medicine, where he contributes to the training of medical students, encouraging them to look beyond symptoms and see the whole person.

Dr Ruder has studied Vedantic philosophy for over 15 years. This body of ancient knowledge offers a clear and practical understanding of the human mind, its workings, and its relationship to suffering. His study is ongoing; he travels regularly to India to sit with his spiritual teacher, and he shares these teachings in a contemporary format through online classes on practical Vedanta. This study has shaped the way he practices medicine, offering space for conversation in consultations. It allows him to see that many of the conditions he treats, such as obesity, diabetes, and chronic fatigue states are often the physical expression of deeper patterns: stress, restlessness, unconscious habits, and a mind left unchecked, rather than simply biological events.

Like the “Kavi” ( poet-seer ) of old who uses story and questioning to awaken understanding, Dr Ruder meets each patient where they are. Whether in a clinical consultation or a Vedanta class, the underlying intention is the same: to support individuals in understanding themselves more deeply, and to move toward health with a steady and discerning intellect.
